iPhone 4 blacked out...

hi, i was wondering if anyone else's iphone 4 just blacked out on them. by "blacked out", i mean, no home screen, no power, and all the buttons are unresponsive. i hit the home and power button a thousand times and the phone never turned back on.

eventually, i held the home and power button and the phone powered on. this has happened to me twice since the 4.2 upgrade. anyone else had this happen to them?

to be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work..

first thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo

if that doesn't work I would restore from backup and if that doesn't work I would restore as new if all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one.

This has happened to me a few times. And it wouldn't turn back on until I plugged it in. It happened for the final time this weekend. Come to find out my battery crapped out. Only will turn on when plugged into the wall and then it had no signal or wifi, so I wiped out the phone, but it won't stay turned on long enough on the computer to restore.

So apple is sending me a new phone. Which is on the FedEx truck right now to my place.

Beyond frustrating for a phone that's less than 6 months old. Heck, when I had my 3GS I had to get it replaced after 2 weeks because of a software issue that was unfixable.

Add me to the list:

Just played a game on my iPhone 4 (16GB, purchased in September) called "Infinity Project". After I finally got "killed", I quit the game. All was well, but when I was going to set the phone down, I bumped the safari icon. As it launched, I hit the home button and the phone went black - period. It would not respond to ANY keys or buttons being pressed.

I tried to force reboot - holding the home button and power button. I held for a good 10 seconds and nothing happened.

I tried again - still nothing.

On the last try - after holding the button for the count of 27 (Yes, I was counting...), the white apple boot screen came up... phone seems to be working now...

So what happened? Any ideas? Is this cause for concern?

Hi Reese,

Saw your comment on CleverTexting English. Would like to know what is the exact difficulty you are facing? What model of phone is it?

Also we have updated the description as you suggested to include how does one go about using it. Let me know if that helps now. The App was only uploaded yesterday, so every feedback helps.

Had some difficulty finding you. 🙂

Thanks,

Abhijit

Hello Everyone,

I apologize but I had a specific question for merged content 1 and have no idea of another way to contact this person. I have spent hours with apple tech support to no avail. I read an old blog he was posting in and seemed to be "the man" or "woman" (MC1 just sounds like a male name.. haha) on ATVs (apple tvs). I cannot get my ipad mini or iphone 5 to mirror of even airplay with my ATV 3 after just taking it to the family room of my house and hooking it up down there for just a few minutes. No matter what we have tried, I mean every thing, I have a pretty extensive network of multimeda equipment, but i have taken it down to just the ATV and router....to luck. I cannot get that icon to appear and we have tried it all. I can however use it as and audio output source... If you or anyone else (just PM me or send me to the propler spot please!). feel free can offer any assistance in finding a solution I would be very appreciative. I know I can just trade it in for a new one but it might not fix the problem. Once again my aplogies to everyone on this blog. If there is a way to PM a specific bloggist, please let me know this is the first time I have done this and hopefully the last!

Good Luck with your troubleshooting everyone,

Russ

I had the same problem. One night I was charging my phone, as usual, when my iphone 4S suddenly started beeping. The screen was blacked out and no matter what I did, I could not access the home screen, any apps or the phone. I did the same and finally held down the power + home buttons and my phone began to power up showing the apple icon. I turned my phone off for the night to give it a rest.

The next morning I woke to a text message SMS from my brother, but his name was not visible, only his mobile number. I then checked my contacts to find there were only 37 of more than 900 listed. I updated my iOS to 6.3.1 and then called apple suppor. We tried everything they could think of for two and a half hours, only to discover my phone was not accessing my wi-fi and nothing had been backed up to the cloud since December 2012!

The apple senior advisor told me to take my iphone to the apple store and swap it for a new one. I did so and had backed up what was remaining on my phone to my laptop computer, but I lost all my new contacts from December of last year through July 3rd. I checked the cloud from my laptop and discovered this weekend that my new iphone IS backing up to the cloud, but the it still reads it has "never" been backed up. When I initiate a manual backup from the iphone, it says it could not be completed. No explanation, no error code, just never backed up.
