Apple ID is my email and it is incorrect

Hello,

I have an Apple ID in the form of an email address, made a mistake with it and lived with it till the time came to verify my account for the 'Find My iPhone' service.

How can I fix it?

I just got 'Find My iPhone' working on a bunch of devices that were waiting for this step to get resolved.
