Adobe flash player needed on iPad

I know, but saying nothing will not make a statement at all.

I'm in the uk, am a recent convert to ipad2, am nearer to 50 than i'd like and am amazed that with such a great product, an easy own-goal is missed. The fact that so many excuses come in from apple just proves they need to make excuses.

I work for a large multinational corporate. Apple doing stuff like 'no flash' makes them unpredictable since common sense dictates a 'get real' answer to support flash would be the right one. If you want to make inroads in hearts and mind of IT people bent on Microsoft, this sort of belligerence from Apple is not the best strategy.

Hasn't seem to put a dent in sales since 2007, the iPad has been adopted by many multinational corporations, and I doubt there is a lot of concern regarding Flash in corporate executive suites. The former CEO clearly delineated why Flash was not on iOS devices, I don't know why IT people would see that as "unpredictable".

Competitors are coming in now, so it will be tougher.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my iPad. The thing is if apple decide not to support flash, what might they decide not to support next time...?

I already have an ancient pc that's still works with iTunes/xp and a newer gmac ppc that isn't and is starting to be limited even though it's a far better and potentially capable machine than my old Win PC.

.... So I'm a bit wary...

Of course competitors came along and it will be tougher. That is what competition is all about. But United Airlines just purchases a slew of iPads and competitors were available.

I can save you from guessing, iOS also does not support Java. You just don't here as much about that one.

Yep, the PPC world is pretty much over, Lion doesn't support it (nor did Snow Leopard), and Rosetta is no longer available to run PPC apps. Time marches on. Microsoft has long been a slave to backwards compatibility (sort of) which leads to a lot of their security problems (get rid of the Registry and you solve a lot of problems) while Apple has not adopted that approach. If you need to run a decade old OS, and backward compatibility is your thing, you are far better off to stay in the MS world and out of Apple. So if that is your need it is good to be wary. Just be sure to keep all of security software current, backwards compatiblity is not a virtue in that arena.

I tend to agree with the viewpoint that Apple screwed up here somewhat and I think Steve Jobs had a lot to do with that, despite the official version of why it's missing from iOS.

It's true they have a lead in the tablet market right now but I doubt it will hold considering that they charge top dollar for products that aren't even home made anymore. No reflection on foreign manufacturing abilities intended but quality control usually always takes a hit with all this farming out overseas.

Over here the ads for those rival tablets always stress that they have Flash, making life a whole lot easier for their users. OK other aspects maybe not be as slick but they are getting there.

it's rumoured that Amazon are ready to bring out a very close competitor to the iPad and at a much lower cost. They are famous for selling things almost at a loss, so Apple may be in for some serious competition, who knows?

Interesting viewpoint but sort of illogical. What evidence do you have that Apple "screwed up"? Lack of sales? Not making a profit? Stock gone in the dumper? If you want to look at the success of iOS and why Mr. Jobs made the decision he did (he was after all the CEO) you only have to read his "Thoughts on Flash" which is widely available, and then consider his decision from a business standpoint, not that you want to play Farmville on Facebook. You'd have a hard time showing the failure of his decisions. And yes comptetitors heavily advertised that there tablets do Flash. Hasn't helped them make much of a dent in the market.

As CEO Mr. Jobs made a corporate decision that carries with it an element of risk that is now being played out in the marketplace. We will all be witnesses as to whether his choice to go with open source rather than proprietary software was the right decision.

The bottom line is all of Apple's success with the iPad and now iPad 2, as well as iPhones, has been without Flash support. If it was worth it to Adobe, they'd have figured out how to make it work on iOS by now; they haven't.

As far as being manufactured overseas, all Apple hardware - Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPods - has been since at least the mid-1990s when they closed their Fountain, CO manufacturing plant, and that hasn't hurt Apple quality at all.

i would like to watch some tv shows that i missed when originally televised and i cannot watch them on their websites because there is no flash,so don't say you do not need it.

You can find apps for most TV stations, I use them all the time to watch shows i've missed.

I am very likely the forum regular that the most upset over the lack of Flash. I have frequently jumped all over the other regulars that were critical of forum newbies wanting Flash. However, at the same time, you've got to face reality. It's not supported and probably never will be. There isn't a darned thing that you or I can do about it.

You need to decide for yourself if it's true "need" and, if so, the iPad simply is not the correct product for you. On the other hand, if it's only a "want" and the other iPad characteristics outweigh the lack of Flash, then live with it. My situation is the latter.

Well said Philly_Phan. People rarely understand the difference between needs and wants. Watching an old TV show is defiitely not a need.

On the other hand, your case is different... "needing" to view medical images. Hope things are going well for you.

Bear in mind that my "need" wasn't really for the iPad as I could always use my Mac. The iPad was a convenience and therefore a "want."

Thanks very much for your concern about my health. The timing of your comment is great. I got some fantastic news just two hours ago. I had gone through "BCG" treatments intended to prevent a return of bladder cancer and it appears that they worked. I'm walking on air right now but the doctors are more conservative. It seems that five years is the magic time frame before they ever declare a patient to be cured of any cancer. As you may recall, I had two different cancers so I need to get checked regularly for both.

That's great news PP! We just lost a dear lady in my church to cancer... it seems to hit everyone in some way at some point in life. I don't need to pray for her anymore... I can now add you to my prayer list. 😉

Why?First it decreases your battery life and Adobe Flash Player is mostly used for Computers, not Tablet-Computers and finger prints.
