Importing DVD's to watch on AppleTV

1st, Is there a faster way to import DVD's to itunes than handbrake? Seems to take an hour or more per movie and a couple gig each.

2nd, I would like to have all my media (movies,CD's,video's, pictures) on an external drive (which I do currently have) to save space on the drive in the Mac mini. I am running the newest Apple TV and I can't see the external drive on the Apple TV to view my media. I can view it fine in iTunes directly on the drive from the Mini but I only have a few movies along with around 650 CD's on it. At 2gig per movie I will use alot if not all my hard drive space to download my close to 120 DVD collection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually it's illegal in many countries to import commercial DVDs (yes, even if you own them, even for backup, even for viewing on another device, etc,) since it involves breaking DRM on the DVD. Apple doesn't like this topic even mentioned in the Discussions since it is discussing an illegal activity (it says so specifically in the terms of use) so don't be surprised if this topic disappears.

Sorry, I don't have any AppleTV experience.

As noted - no comment on your first question.

Your media needs to be associated with an iTunes library for the TV to play the content. If the content will not play in iTunes then the TV will not work as a play back device. You can put your iTunes library on an ext HD and your TV should play it. There are lost of discussions in the Forums that target that subject.

They might be an TV hack out there that is a work around.
