GTS 250 1GB DDR3 in Mac Pro 1,1

Hello! 8 ^)

The power supply is connected to the GTS 250 card in Slot-2; Slot-1 is harboring a 7300GT, to which the display is connected. How do I cause the system to recognize and make use of the card in Slot-2? It is aware of the card, but it is not aware of the details and doesn't appear to be using it as the primary card. Under System Profiler -> Graphics/Displays: "NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT, GPU, PCIe, Slot-1; Display, GPU, PCIe, Slot-2."

I inserted the GTS 250 into Slot-1, but the display would not respond. When I turned on the computer after returning the 7300GT to Slot-1 and the GTS 250 to Slot-2, I received a message stating that the GTS 250 is not running at full power. Am I using the wrong power-cord? What is the right cord to use? Where ought I to plug in the cord? Must I reach below the fan? How might I go about doing it?

Which cards are recommended for Mac Pro 1,1 running Snow Leopard?

There are driver injectors that somehow allow using the 7300GT in slot #3, and 3rd party card (not all) in slot #1.

Of course ATI 5770 from Apple $249 removes all that fuss and will work fine, with 10.6.5 or later.

Thank you, The hatter!

May we please discuss this in more detail? I was playing around with this a little, but I had minor luck.

I can't locate the download link for netkas, and I do not know how to begin editing the dsdt.aml file (it won't open in TextEdit). I do not know how to install chameleon, either, although I think 10.6.5 has at least EFI V8. It would be very helpful to discuss this with you over Skype. 8 ^P

GTS250 is in effect a G92 based card, just like 8800GT. It is basically a renamed 9800GTX.

It will work just fine in Mac Pro when used with ATY_Init and a 7300GT. (I have done it)

You don't need to edit any blah-blah-blah files or whatever you were going on about. (that file modding applies to hacks only, on Mac Pro, no fiddling needed)

Only issue will be that displays connected to GTS250 won't show up until login.

And the 7300GT will remain primary until you trigger a "detect displays" event.

Also, RAM will show up as 512 Megs unless you mod something inside ATY_Init, but this is cosmetic. Card will be getting full use of 1 Gig.
