Are iPads locked like iPhones?

I've been given a gift of an iPad 64GB, 3G + WiFi, which the giver bought in USA. I live in New Zealand. Can I get a suitable micro-SIM here and use it with the iPad or is it locked to the USA carrier (it has an AT&T SIM in it now) or is it locked the same way iPhones are in USA?

Many thanks

The iPad isn't locked. You can get a micro-sim card from your provider for the iPad.
