Is using utorrent safe on macbook?

Everyone i know with a macbook says its hard for a mac to catch a virus using torrent? Is that true? is it safe?

iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone 4, iOS 4

There are no viruses for the Mac. uTorrent itself is safe. However, there are some trojan horses, and the best way to get them is to download infected versions of Mac software from dubious torrents. If you're downloading something you trust, and verifying its integrity, then you're fine, but if you're downloading random stuff from someone you don't know on the internet, that's a problem.

Unlikely, but possible. Safe? Depends on what you consider safe. I wouldn't put any torrent app on my Macs, that's for sure.

Well a Mac trojan called DNSChanger was embedded in a file sharing version of iWork last year. So if I were you i would trust file sharing at all.

There are no true viruses for Macs, but there are trojan horses. Probably the best way to get a trojan horse would be to run some program you download from a peer-to-peer system like bittorrent.
