New symbol appearing next to battery indicator

A symbol of a lock inside of a circle with an arrow has suddenly appeared to the left of the battery percentage indicator on the top right of my iPhone 4. Does anyone know what it is? And how do I get rid of it?

It means you have enabled the Portrait Orientation Lock.

Double-select the Home button to bring up the fast app switching/recently used apps bar or dock. Swipe to the right to bring up the iPod controls with the Portrait Orientation Lock selection available at the far left. Select the icon to enable or disable the lock.
