HOw do I upgrade for my OS 10.5.8 to 10.6 so i can install iLife '11?

Hello,
I have OS 10.5.8 and i just got iLife '11..i currently am running iLife '09. So, in order to install the new "11 version I have to update to snow Leopard instead of LEopard. so how do I go about upgrading to this new snow leopard.. can I do it online? I am not finding an answer to this. Basically I need it for iMovie, so I can do trailers and all that fun stuff for my Dvd's!

Go to a physical computer store and buy Snow Leopard, or order it from Apple's online store and wait for it to be shipped to you.

You must have an Intel to be able to install Mac OS X,6

All MacBooks are Intel Macs. The iBook and PowerBook are PowerPC. Furthermore, the G3 can't run Mac OS X 10.5.

When you do get and update to Snow Leopard, be sure to use due diligence and take the time to do all the software updates for Snow Leopard BEFORE you try to install iLife 11. Then also check for updates for iLife 11 before allowing it to update your iPhoto library if you have one.

OK thanks! Sorry for the long wait. But, basically I have to buy the update..right? And I heard it messes up iPhoto. Is it worth it to update to iLife '11? Would you guys recommend it?

Although I am not certain,iPhoto should be OK once you upgrade because on the Mac OS X operating system upgrades most of the time replace only the old files which would mean say MAC OS X 10.5 to MAC OS 10.6.

Your personal files and settings would remain the same. The only thing that would change is possibly some interface tweaks the OS / App upgrade contained and/or some other added features or in more simple english,

If you Upgrade the software the old version would be replaced by the new ones meaning documents, Apps, and other files (including iPhoto Libraries) would remain untouched because they were not part of the APP and / or OS.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is a really good operating system and if you haven't already upgraded you might want to consider it.

Now you should check if your computer is intel based. an Easy way of doing that is by recalling if you purchased the computer 2006 or after.

Even better if your intel processor is part of the core i series (e.g. core i5, i7 etc) you will be able to upgrade to the upcoming Mac OS 10.7 lion os instead of 10.6.
