Apple Remote and Battery

Battery inside Apple's remote that comes with Apple TV2 is down every 8 days. Is that expected? I've already replaced 2 in last 3 weeks for about 4$. I was wondering if this is issue with Apple TV remote or it is working as expected

How do you know is down, are you pointing it directly at the ATV and nothing happens?

A good way to see whether a remote is transmitting is to look at it through a digital camera. You should be able to see the IR emitter light up when you press the button.
