Dec 7, 2010 8:54 PM in response to A. Richardsby John F. Whitehead,Search on all posts for "annotations" and you'll find them around here.
Note that trying to set an annotations-to-FCP workflow up can really confuse your workflow and there are good reasons to not rely on them.
Say you want annotations on a clip to show up as markers when you load it in FCP. Great!
But after you load the clip in FCP, what happens to the clip in Final Cut Server? What if a non-editor adds another annotation? It's not going to show up in the clip in FCP since you already loaded it.
Or what happens if someone on FCServer adds an annotation to the master clip, and someone else adds it to a FCP project member instance? You'll have essentially the same media being tracked by different sets of annotations.
Or what happens once you output your final FCP project? All those annotations on the master clips are useless.
I think setting it an annotations workflow is only worth the trouble if you need a non-editor to be able to do logging, and if they do it before it is used in a project, and you don't plan to change them it after it's been brought in. Or if you want to annotate completed works to mark chapters or provide transcript highlights. -
Dec 16, 2010 3:00 PM in response to John F. Whiteheadby Jamie Hodge,My approach has been to export annotations as xmeml clip files via email. This way, a user can export an entire production folder of annotations an drag it into FCP as a new document or as additions to an existing document. All clips include markers for the individual annotations. -
Dec 16, 2010 3:11 PM in response to Jamie Hodgeby xtrem-productions,Ok but how to export annotations as XML with script !?
I'm ok about modification in FCP, if its only one way from FCSvr to FCP its not a problem.
Thanks for ypur help.
