Question

Only copies an alias???

I'm trying to copy files to a cd using my G4 ibook superdrive but for some reason when I drag a folder onto the blank disc it is copying it as an alias only. It has worked in the past and I have recently made two dvds using the drive. Any ideas?

iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hi Justin,
The alias you see might be a sort of placeholder for what you intend to burn on the disc. the disc wont burn until you tell it to. there should be a burn cd icon in the window's toolbar.
i'm trying to remember correctly, but i think if you try to eject the blank disc and it's got "aliases" assigned to it, you might be asked ifyou want to burn the disc, my guess is you'd click yes 😉

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as Justin. I tried to burn all of the alias files and it really is just aliases. when I try to open my backup disk on my other Mac, there are no "folders" supporting the files I'm trying to open. please suggest alternative action.. I'm going nuts!

here's an alternate method. option click on the desktop or select under file "create new burn folder." this will make a folder that has a burn cd icon on it. drag the files you want to back up into this folder. double click the folder and select click the burn button.
