Volume limit not working

Just received one of these as a gift and I can't get the volume limit to work. It locks at some level below max, but the setting has no effect on the volume slider in Music app.
i.e. One can set a max limit and lock it in settings, but on returning to Music.app one can slide the slider to max and hurt one's ears.

That's (almost certainly) not correct. When you set the *volume limit,* you're setting a maximum volume, not the maximum point to which you can move the volume slider.

So if you go into Settings/Music you'll see that the *volume limit* says it's off. Set the volume limit to half way (or whatever) and press Music to return to the Settings/Music menu, you will now see that the *volume limit* is on. Now play a song. You can still move the volume slider bar up to the top end, but the maximum volume is now reduced by the *volume limit.*

If you do this while a song is playing, you will not notice any change in volume +as you change the setting,+ because the Touch is clever enough to alter the "now playing" volume in order to protect your hearing.

If by any (unlikely) chance the volume limit is not working, try re-starting the Touch by press-and-holding the Sleep/Wake button and powering off. Once it's fully powered off, press-and-hold the Sleep/Wake button again to re-start the Touch. This usually sorts out minor glitches like that, but as i said, you'll probably find it is working but it's so clever, you haven't realised it.

Many thanks for the reply. I rebooted the iPod and it seems to have fixed it.
I was aware that the volume limiter simply rescales the volume slider from the previous posts I've found on this topic.

Now I get around 93dB for the James Bond theme music (007) with the limiter off and volume to maximum, and 70dB with the limiter set just above half way and the volume slider at maximum.
