I was recently trying to update my iPad and after I downloaded iTunes 10.1, my iPad is no longer being recognized and will not sync. I've followed every step in the online troubleshooting guide, checked the USB port (it does detect the iPod, iPad, and other USB media), and even reinstalled iTunes. When I run the diagnostics under the Help menu in iTunes, it tells me that the iPod or device is not being detected. However, the USB port is functional, the iPad is fully charged, and the only thing that has changed is the updated iTunes. I don't know what else to do 😟 Any ideas?
I am having the same problem. Took into a genius consultant today and they couldn't figure it out. Reinstalling iTunes works but only temporarily. Once i restart my computer, it forgets the ipad and will not sync again. The only suggestion that they have is a complete reinstall from the ground up.
So I have this problem as well..I never sinc, and just did it recently -once then updated to the new IOS. Then my IPAD -died! yes died..ok maybe that was unrelated, I returned it, anyway I am trying desperatly to sync my new replacement IPAD and that is impossible! It is not recognized at all,I did everything in the help menu, ran the diagnostics, reinstalled ITunes. etc.. I also found other outside forums.this issue prevails, and is most common with the download of the new ITUNES Apple people please help!!
Same problem - ipad initially synced fine and now, since update to latest version of itunes and ipad OS, will not recognise ipad or my iphone3GS. Absolutely nothing works!
I, too, am having the synch problems with both my iPad and iTouch. I've reset each device, i've removed iTunes and reinstalled and still nothing. My OS says it's version 10.5.8, and when i check there are no further software updates so everything is where it should be.
just got over similar problem. After a couple of months of slower and slower syncing, finally stopped at step 2. After 5 hours, tried to cancel, 2 hours later unplugged. Following this, Ipad not recognized at all, nor was I-touch. Reviewed itunes library and found 18 second product video that I had received by email--have no idea how it got into Itunes library. Removed that and some audio files in Itunes U, turned off both Imac and Ipad completely. Next trial, sync went smoothly and quickly; tonight did Itouch, same smooth operation. Can only suggest getting any questionable material out of library, update apps and Itunes and turn both devices completely off before trying. Have no idea why this worked, but happy it did.
I had a very similar problem where my iPad (and iPhone) would not appear as a device in iTunes, although it would appear as a camera. I restarted and reinstalled a lot and nothing worked. Then I remembered that I had recently added three hours of video content to iTunes when my devices were disconnected, so I deleted this, and lo and behold my devices were visible again! I can now add the video content when the devices are connected and all seems to be fine. This smells a lot like a software bug, but at least there is a workaround (only add large amounts of content when the device is connected).
Add me to the list of folks with this problem. I'm on my second iPad that was initially (out of the box) NOT recognized by iTunes, upon dumping iTunes and re-installing, the iPad DID show up. Now its back to not being recognized by iTunes. I've followed every step in the online troubleshooting guide, checked the USB port, etc. As a longtime Apple user I'm pretty disappointed.
I am having same problem getting i-tunes to sync with my i-pad. My computer syncs with my i-touch fine but not the i-pad. My son has a mac-book and it synced to that fine. I also don't have any content on it yet! Any advice out there?
