Magic Mouse non-linear movement

Hi,

I have an Apple Magic Mouse that came with my new Mac Pro. The mouse movement is highly non-linear with speed: the faster you move the mouse, the further the pointer moves. I find it difficult and frustrating to control the pointer with this type behavior.

There used to be an option to move with or without "acceleration", but I can't find it.

Is there a way to disable this "acceleration"?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Core Duo 2.0 GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 2 GB RAM

Sorry. You seem to be completely alone in your inability to come to grips with it, so I don't expect Apple is likely to change it.

You may find some third-party software that can give you the control you want in this list, though it will probably be a process of trial-and-discard:

No! Aaaaaack is not alone here. I've just bought a MacBook Pro and I also hate the mouse movement. I'm a draftsman and use Autocad with a 7 function Logitech mouse. I play the thing like a piano. I also want to be able to set my mouse to linear movement. As for learning to use this non-linear type, I have three computers to juggle and I don't see why I need to learn a new way of mousing just because someone at Apple thinks its a good idea. I can't understand why manufacturers remove functions like this.

That's right, non-linear response is a feature you can't defeat. Slowing overall response down to a speed you're comfortable with and learning to use your trackpad or mouse advantageously are the things you can do if you find it disconcerting at first. In all likelihood you will quickly get over your unfamiliarity and frustration just by using your computer.

I have been changing settings, changing mice, and trying to get used to it. It's not going to happen. For me, the pointer movement is too slow at the slow end and too fast at the fast end. Doesn't matter where I move the "Tracking Speed" slider, movement is sluggish then ridiculous. I need a "Acceleration" slider, or a checkbox to turn off acceleration all together.

I downloaded Tinker Tool, but there's nothing in there to modify mouse acceleration. Does anybody know of another third party utility that does allow user settings for mouse acceleration?

Thanks.
