PPPoE: I'm on her Bonjour list, but she's never on mine.

My name appears on my wife's Bonjour list when I'm marked as "Available", so she can initiate an audio or video chat with me. Her name, however, doesn't appear on my Bonjour list, even if she's "Available", and so I can't initiate a chat. Her name does appear on my Bonjour list if she has initiated a chat and I've accepted. Any thoughts as to how I can initiate a chat?

Hi,

Computer in Side Bar.
IF You Right Click it and use the Get Info option does it say it is a Mac Share ?
(You can set it to be a PC Share if you turn On File Sharing in System Preferences > Sharing and enable SMB shares in the Advanced Button at both ends - sometimes this makes an Remote Mac appear twice in the shares)

I am going to presume that you have not set this up.

An Admin account cannot have Parental Controls Set up.

As your Wife's Mac shows Up as a Share I presume you can share files and log on to each others computer this way ?

This would suggest that Bonjour is itself working (Other Macs are being found).

There is not a separate .plist for the iChat Bonjour Set up.

I would try the following in order one at a time.

1) Change the Setting in iChat > Preferences > Accounts to not Use this Account (Uncheck the option)
Quit iChat (this will confirm the Rewrite of any .plist that the Bonjour setting does get written to).
Try iChat again and Reset the Use this Account on the Bonjour Account

2) If iChat does not seem to work then delete com.apple.ichatAgent.plist (Drag it to the Trash)
This .plists holds all the accounts that are logged in.
Restart the Computer (iChatAgent is a background support app that starts when the computer does and is not Quit when iChat is Quit).
Relaunch iChat when you have restarted the Computer.

In Panther it was possible to Stop and Start Bonjour with the, what is now the Directory Utility app. (you could "configure" the settings in the "Services" option and Bonjour was listed separately)

There may be another way but I have not had to learn it as mine works.
