Kingston RAM (KTA-MB1066K2/8G) Problems with 2010 MBP

Hey Everyone,

A lot of my apps have been crashing since I've upgraded to the 8gb Kingston RAM. It seems my apps (namely chrome, safari, SC2, Left4Dead2) only crash when I have too many apps open to begin with. Consistently closing apps/browser tabs seems to minimize the crashing, but that defeats the purpose of having 8gb of RAM. If chrome/safari crash, I can reopen the apps without restarting. If SC2/Left4Dead2 crash, then I need to restart my computer to reopen (otherwise they'll crash again).

Just to give you an idea, this is the type of error report that shows up afterwards.

Interval Since Last Report: 120036 sec
Crashes Since Last Report: 11
Per-App Crashes Since Last Report: 3
Anonymous UUID: *********

Exception Type: EXC BADACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN PROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x000000001d5824d0
Crashed Thread: 7

Is this RAM faulty or just incompatible? Is there a quick fix or do I need to return this RAM?
Please help and thanks in advance.

Just to make sure, you upgraded to 2X4GB ram not 1X8GB (which I doubt would work)?

If so, it seems like you've got some bad RAM. It happens more often than it should, but it happens enough. You should read reviews on Amazon about RAM. 🙂

If you have TechTool Deluxe (I think you can only get it with the AppleCare plan), you can test your RAM. Memtest is recommended by some, but it doesn't seem to be updated in a while.

One other test you can do is to put in your old memory. If everything is working, you probably have bad RAM.

I hope you bought it from a reputable dealer. I bought mine from Amazon, just because they have great customer service.

I believe this is excellent advice. I have a MBP 15" 2.8 worked great, no problems. I installed Kingston RAM (KTA-MB1066K2/8G) and within a few days.... The Death Screen appeared.
Since I had encountered these freezes with my MBP 2.6 and am quite aware of the problems encountered with the MBP's, I was not a happy camper.
After thinking about the problem, I decided to pull the RAM. I have not encountered any problems or crashes since removing the Kingston RAM (KTA-MB1066K2/8G).
This is my question... Is the Kingston RAM (KTA-MB1066K2/8G incompatible with 2010 MBP 2.8 or is it just a bad stick. Any ideas welcome. Buy.com will be happy to replace the RAM.... You see my problem.
Thanks in advance.

My Macbook Pro Intel Core i7 2.66 GHz 2010 MBP has had problems with the same ram.

After putting the Kingston Apple 8GB Kit (2x4GB Modules) 1066MHz DDR3 SODIMM iMac and Macbook Memory (KTA-MB1066K2/8G) In the computer. The computer restarts right after telling it to shutdown. The computer would not go to sleep, it wakes back up. And the airport would lose connection.

I'm having the same problem with this memory in my mid 2010 Mac Mini. After installing it, the Mac started crashing (within 1 minute of starting up). Google's Chrome browser was especially vulnerable and crashed every time I started it.

I swapped the memory around several times, zappaed the PRAM, etc. but nothing worked. The only thing I could do was to re-install the original 4GB of Apple RAM. As soon as I did that, all my problems went away.

I read reviews on Amazon and had high hopes for this 8GB RAM upgrade, but it looks like either this RAM won't work with my Mac Mini or I got some bad sticks. Either way, I'm tempted to ditch Kingston on try some RAM from another company.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
