Mic doesnt work in-calls

Hello.
I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 and since iOS 4.0, the microphone randomly stopped working during calls. But only in calls, all other apps that uses the microphone, still fully functioning... When I updated it to iOS 4.2.1, it completelly stopped working during calls. And yes, Voice Memos still records normally.
I've tried restoring, reset to factory settings, update carrier, etc..
No jailbreak or any non-official mod. Ever.

Thanks for the help.

Same here, mic stops working randomly during calls, regardless of whether im calling someone or someone is calling me. These problems occur for both landline and mobile phone calls.

Don't think it's a hardware problem either as the mic works fine when recording voice memo's. I did switch providers about a month ago, but so has a friend of mine and he hasn't had any problems...

Any suggestions?

Interesting...I developed a similar problem over the past 2 days. No changes in iPhone OS, no new software, never hacked, and now the microphone/speakers don't work in phone calls. The speaker failure includes both the handset and the headphone jack (with the microphone ear buds provided with the phone). The microphone works well in Voice Memos, and the speakers work well for all other audio. I can hear through the handset speaker when retrieving voice mail.

Given that all the hardware pieces appear to work in other settings, I suspect the problem lies in the Phone app. Oddly enough, when I dial someone (such as another iphone or my land line), the call does go through. No function of my iphone mic or speakers during that connection, though. I can also send/receive SMS without difficulty, so the problem doesn't appear to be with my ATT service.

Trouble shooting thus far:
Hard-reset: no change in behavior
Restore: restore from last back-up; no change
Restore: set-up as new phone; no change

Finally went back to the original restore from backup. At least I can SMS and use the rest of the phone. Hoping someone out there finds a fix.

I was too optimistic, the problem is still there. Seems as if it happens less often since i downgraded thought, but that could just be coincidence.

Looks like the problem has something to do with the (signal) reception. The cracking noise (on the other side of the line) seems to change when i move around the house. Also, problem occurs more often when calling certain numbers than others...

What surprises me is that Apple still hasn't released any info on this issue. A lot of people seem to be suffering from this problem, so it must have something to do with software i'd say...

Same situation (iPhone 4, 4.2.1 OS), same problem (calls go through but the person can't hear me talking).
I've done 3 restores and there's been no change. Apple needs to find the bugs in their software before they put out updates that render our phones unable to perform their primary function.

If anyone finds a fix, please let the community know about it asap!

Add me to the list. I have did all the resets as well and it will work for a short time and then stop. I am to the point of wishing with all my hart that I went droid. This not being able to talk to people or even worse only for a short time and then nothing has got me in way too much trouble. It is funny I was starting to think about getting a apple computer because I was enjoying the "trouble free" of Apple. What now! Do I have to get a throw away phone to do my work?

Apple git it in gear we need to get this fixed asap!!!!!!!!!!!!
