MacBook Pro Logic Board Failure

I was using my computer just fine (2007 MBP core 2 duo) all day. Put it to sleep came back after 30 minutes and tried to wake it and it's dead. I held down the power key to shut it down then tried to restart no luck. No start up chime, no screen, keyboard seems dead as well (caps lock light does not light up), HD does not start up. The only signs of life are the white light on the screen latch that is now on, the fans are spinning and the DVD drive seems to work.

Reset the power management module and zapped the PRAM, no luck.

A swolen batery is hardly trouble free. I have a compaq laptop from 2002 and the battery is still working trouble free. That is what can be claimed as trouble free. Something from 2011 that has trouble in 2014 only 2 years is hardly a thing that is trouble free. Also you have 2 and one had trouble so that is 50/50 chance of a trouble some machine. That is bad statistics. I just got 2 ipads love em. Hopeful of it lasting more than 2 years.

It seems from your own words you got a ^^^^ "Sample Defect" too.

Car: not a Toyota or Honda and if it did break down it was not within the

first 2 years like these Macs.... 2013 - 2011 = 2

analogy (ideal)

Ford is to Toyota or Honda as Microsoft Windows is to Apple/Mac

🙂

you expect the American car to break down early but not the Japanese brand car...

you may spend more money on the Japanese car but you expect it to

be more reliable... and from my experiences , they are!

Why not expect the same from the Macs?

Dec 19, 2013 10:38 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alder

I do. I have the highest expectations from a 2800 dollar machine that it will be god like. I have a $2 compaq laptop from a garage sale that is more trouble free and it was made in 2002 not 2011. That is 9 years to work the kinks out. C'mon Apple get on with it. Take this show on the road already and stop with the excuses. There is no excuse for faliure.

Very well put.

I am going to cash in on Apple's offer and get something free

for all my troubles and to make up for the money I had to dish

out getting the iMac repaired. I may finally learn how to use

an iPod.... I prefer full fidelity in music (CDs, .WAV...).

I will try to get over my learning curve using iPod... though

I put music on my Samsung smart phone (PlayMusic Google)

seems easier for me.

If I cannot find any use for the iPod, it can be sold I guess.

Someone will want it. Unless it fails too like these other Apple products.

Best wishes to you all with your Macs or bad apples.

Toyota recalls 885,000 vehicles over airbag problem

Paul A. Eisenstein The Detroit Bureau

Want to try again, that was a terrible analogy

Dec 20, 2013 11:09 AM in response to Csound1

Well all I know is I used a 2000s Toyota to transport 2 defectively

malfunctioned Mac computers to the Apple store for repairs.

Though this Toyota has some problems with the lock (opening

all doors using the one on driver's side --though the passenger side

still works), the car is still drivable which is the main purpose and

expectation of the car despite a few non-critical flaws.

Also I used the same Toyota to retrieve the Mac computers

after they were fixed.

Also to reply to this, an airbag problem does not really affect

the real purpose of using the car (Toyota in this case), to be able

to drive it. The 2011 Macs were not operational after their failures and

Apple has yet to recall any of these.

So you have not given a valid or good counter example either

and maybe we both are comparing Apples to Oranges.

Again, good luck to you here as this is going nowhere, I am getting kind of tired of this

so I hope to cut my losses with a free iPod if Apple will

still offer that for my troubles and $ for repairs...

maybe this is an Apple employee.

(canceling this account I don't have to see this nonsense)

So you think that an airbag deploying in your face while driving (or not deploying when it should) does not affect your ability to drive the car?

😁😁😁

Good luck with any further analogies, they're really quite funny.

Dec 20, 2013 11:17 AM in response to Csound1

remove the airbag as it is not necessary in the car to get

you from point A to point B...

Older cars did not have airbags so that could be the same

as them "not deploying" I just don't understand your point

I am talking about basic operations and expectations of these

things. Airbags can be considered a luxury ... I have an old

Toyota that does not have an airbag...and it still runs at least

On the other hand, the defect in the Macs made them

inoperable for use.

Whatever!

Where is my free iPod .. how do stop receiving these messages...

Goodbye!

Let's stick to the point of the orginal thread and try not to respond to incivility. I was lucky in that I got Apple to replace my logic board on a 1.5 year old 15"MBP. It took a lot of work on my part and I didn't lose my cool even though it was a huge waste of my time, many hours in travel and several false starts on thier part to deal with the problem. The issues should be addressed and if apple care is required to have a functioning machine they should include it in the price and extend the warrentee then we can decide if we really want to spend a additional $300 on top of the well over $2000 to get a funtioning machine. That kind of price tag should ensure quality gear. As for me, I'm hoping for another 2 years on this machine watching the heat very closely. I doubt I'll be buying another one unless I see some further action and acknowledgment of these GPU issues.
