Q: MacBook Pro Logic Board Failure

I was using my computer just fine (2007 MBP core 2 duo) all day. Put it to sleep came back after 30 minutes and tried to wake it and it's dead. I held down the power key to shut it down then tried to restart no luck. No start up chime, no screen, keyboard seems dead as well (caps lock light does not light up), HD does not start up. The only signs of life are the white light on the screen latch that is now on, the fans are spinning and the DVD drive seems to work.

Reset the power management module and zapped the PRAM, no luck.

I didnt.....he quoted the sales of goods act to me saying that although i am out of the 4 year apple timeframe for this repair the sale of goods act covers me for an extra couple of years. As i bought it from the applestore online , apple were the retailer who sold it to me so they were obliged and were responsible to repair. So if you bought it from an official applestore  or the applestore online then you can take it to any applestore to get it fixed. If you bought it from another retailer, like john lewis or pc world etc then you would have to take it back to them as they were the retailer who sold it to you and they would be obliged to sort it out for you. hope that helps

say to them the sales of goods act covers you for up to 6 years from the date of purchase and they are obliged by uk to law to fix as you purchased in late 2007 so you are quite clearly within this 6 year window. if they give u any **** then ask to speak to someone higher and tell them u will be calling the ombudsman to get a solutiont to it

    Hey Duncan,

    I know the feeling.

I have a late 07 MBP and it totally broke down.

Was confirmed that it is the graphics chip and got Apple to make an exception so they would fixx it ..

    but ...

I've now been told that my MBP is Vintage! not just older or something, but Vintage!

And the problem then arrives, apparently, that for Vintage machines, they can't get parts from Apple anymore!

I'm totally P** off with Apple as you can imagine.

Been promised 3 times that it would be fixed and now it still won't!

    Apple ..biggggg #Fail !

Yes, they said mine was 'Vintage' too, but actually they do still have logic boards available and they can still do a repair, only they want £380+ to do it!

Might try contacting the ombudsman anyway to see what they say.

Yep - i've tried two, Exeter and Southampton - both said no. i don't intend to give up though. We are a Publishing co. and use Macs throughout, although judging by the attitude of the Apple 'Care' peeps I've encountered so far, that means nothing!

souynds like total idiots you have encountered so far. Like i said if they give u any grief say about the 6 years you get from the sales of goods act. If you actually bought it from apple then you are legally entitled to a free repair from them. period

Just had a call back from Apple Executive Customer Relations in Ireland and they confirm they will not repair the unit free of charge. They didn't seem concerned when I mentioned the SOG act and that I would be going to the Financial Ombudsman over this matter, so obviously they feel they are so big and important that they can simply ride roughshod over their customers!

One thing's for certain - this'll be the last Mac product I buy - either for myself or my company.

I'm amazed you guys haven't been censored - last time I posted in response to someone who had won throughthe small claims court (in this or the other almost identical thread), my message was deleted.  That just drove another nail into the coffin of my 20 year plus Mac allegance.  I supported them through the hard times, and was a member of several acadmeic institutions which purchased entire labs of Macs when the rest of the world was mired in DOS.  Like you and your company, no more for me after this debacle.  Apple was propelled by a loyal user base and it seems that this was strictly one way.
