Q: MacBook Pro Logic Board Failure

I was using my computer just fine (2007 MBP core 2 duo) all day. Put it to sleep came back after 30 minutes and tried to wake it and it's dead. I held down the power key to shut it down then tried to restart no luck. No start up chime, no screen, keyboard seems dead as well (caps lock light does not light up), HD does not start up. The only signs of life are the white light on the screen latch that is now on, the fans are spinning and the DVD drive seems to work.

Reset the power management module and zapped the PRAM, no luck.

Logic/graphics board issues are never random, though individual users might think so. You might find this information useful to address your current situation and avoid future problems:

Well, whilst the service provided by the genius wasn't up to much, the UK apple store phone support was much more of the standard I would expect...although I bristled slightly when the chap said 'i'll take your word for it that the graphics issued predated the logic board failure'. Other than that very helpful, arranged a repair despite the end of the official repair programme so for now I have a functional computer again and, though apple should have informed everyone that bought one of these machines of the symptoms to look out for, in my case they appear to have made good the fault. Good look to everyone who is struggling with these problems

    Congrats James!

I agree that Apple should have a policy that treats everyone the same. The way it is now it all depends on the Apple employee one talks too.

Went to the genius bar and was told that my computer needed to download 2.7 gigs of updates before he could even test it. Are these guys idiots or what. I don't know about what kind of smuck these guys beleive me to be. Hard ware can be tested at any software point. For updates should not change the hard ware behaviore much. These roll ups are just tweeks. The hardware will fail the same on any roll up level. My computer does the same failiure every time and I went and did it the slow way just to prove a point. I clicked and installed the updates one by one and put the computer to sleep and bring it back and I have the same video flickers every time. Nothing in software fixed this. I have to open and close the screen several times to have the video switch to the working video card. I am lucky I buy the one with 2 video cards. One fail and the other one works that is why i have an external monitor output at all. Otherwise I would have a flickering screen. But I just wont hold my breath till the other fails too. This should have never happened to me where I had to reinstall software for a whole year while in school. I trusted the Apple genius bar. They do not live up to the name. The first thing that should have been looked at is the hardware. Their test is a joke since it did not catch this glitch.

Perhaps their diagnostic tools need a specific OS to run? Well, still strange for a low-level process, but who know?

Apple is engaged in borderline criminal conduct. I have sean a message disapear of my screen. A responce to one of my messages I have tried to read. I don't know what right Apple employees have to go into my computer remote and delete messages on my Lap top. This is odd that they would engage in this. But mark my work they messed with the wrong Computer Forensics Professional. I can go back and recover anything from the hard drive. You can cover your tracks. I will get you.

No right at all, that's why they don't do that.

Thorador, greetings;  Nothing was deleted from your MBP.  What ever may have been excised from your post on this forum was due to your contravention of the Terms of Use for this forum.

I would urge you to review the Terms of Use and I am sure that you will understand the reasons why.  Keep in mind that this is a forum created and operated by Apple with limits set by Apple and not an open public arena for use by individuals who wish to set their own standards and rules.

Should you have objections to the Terms of use, you have the option to contact Apple as described in the Terms of Use.

    Ciao.

Apple has every right to delete messages from their message boards they deem inappropriate. They are not going into your computer and deleting anything.

Then, if Apple is too severe in deleting posts (as soon as they don't want something to be written they delete a post), should we not all move to another forum?

That is your choice. ( I assume that you meant yourself when you spoke for 'all')

No he means all of us. Since Apple is censor nazis. My message had no foul language and it was highly technical. They claimed it was off topic and with abusive language for they could not take the negative in it. It is also proof of willfull cover up of the fact that the logic board issue is known by apple and being covered up. This will be part of the class action. We will try to force them to recall most mac book pro and imac models with this glitch. Had another visit to apple genious. After 20 to 30 minutes of use the mac book pro crashed with a garbled screen. We used a 27 inch cinema display the newest model. So this time the genius asociate told me the way I recover is to do a pram reset. This tells me they are covering up and want me to live with their mistake. I don't think so. I don't have to and at this point I am refusing to be ok with this.

As I was reading message to me they did not want me to see. They deleted that post and probably forsed a server poll. This made the message on my makbook disapear from mail. I read half way. This seems to me as interferance with communication and resolution of problems with their products. This is very counter productive even for apple. This supposed to be a free environment and not one where you need control to cover up your mistakes in production. Apple supposed to recall these products on their own not make our work living ****. They rather spend the money on that then help us fix the problem. Pathetic behaviour if you as me. This is dispicable.
