Xerox DocuCentre-II C3000 Not Printing from 10.6

Hi,

We have just gotten a Xerox DocuCentre-II C3000 and I have set it up easily to work with Windows XP, but I am having issues getting it working under Mac OS X (10.6).

I have tried the drivers from the Xerox website, and when I print it sends the job to the print queue, and then according to my Mac it prints fine. However, it doesn't end up printing at all.

In the photocopier, it comes up with the following error in its logs:
JCL Syntax Error, with error code 016-749 (if I remember correctly).

I cant seem to find any information that will make it work.

I have accounting/authentication turned off.
I have tried using both the generic PCL and Postscript drivers from Apple, and they work fine. The issue with those is that they don't support some of the functions of the photocopier, such as the stapler.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

The error would suggest something is not correct with the Mac driver you are using. Looking at the [Xerox Au web site|http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/setupDriverForm.do?ctry code=AU&lang_code=en&dlang=en&pid=DCIIC3000] there is a driver for 10.5/10.6. Are you using this driver?

The same page also shows a PPD installer. You could also look at using this if you cannot get the other driver to work. This will work like the Generic PS driver you tried previously but should give you all the finisher functions.

How do I delete all the Xerox drivers I have installed so that I can try reinstalling them?

The driver installer may also have an uninstaller. If not, then you can navigate to HD > Library > Printers and here there should be a Xerox folder. Trash this and empty the trash. You may also find that the driver added a background service, which is often used to provide information like toner levels. If one does exist on the Mac then this would appear in Activity Monitor. Here you could force quit the service and then look at HD > Library > LaunchAgents for a referring plist.

Hi,

Well I have tried the PPD drivers you suggested (there are 2 versions - one that ends in "PS", and one that ends in "PS A"), and both of them came up with the exact same error in the printer (016-749: JCL Syntax Error).

Any other ideas on how to get it working?

Basically, we have 3 trays on the machine, with a side-output tray, as well as a stapler. So the functions I want working are colour, stapling, and duplexing.

Sorry - I think I made a mistake in my original info. I tried printing using the generic Postscript driver again, and it printed garbage.

According to one of the Xerox Support documents, I don't have the postscript module in the Printer.

So is there a non-postscript driver for the printer that I can use?

Or, how much would a postscript driver for it cost?

Thanks.

Okay. Well that makes some sense with regards to the error message. It would suggest that it could be related to the Postscript format or one of the associated plugins with the PS driver being used.

Yes there is. You could look at using [pxlmono|http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/mac osx/pxlmono]. You need to ensure you install all three packages as listed on this page. I believe this driver will give you some more functionality than the Generic PCL Laser that is included with 10.6.

Or, how much would a postscript driver for it cost?

Generally over a thousand. But it would be best to check with the Xerox sales rep.

Hey,

Thanks for your response.

I tried the piximono package but it didn't give me any options.

Anyway, I contacted the people we got the printer from, and they are coming today to install a Postscript module for us for extremely cheap (they primarily deal in 2nd-hand xerox machines)

Thanks again. I will mark this as solved through your initial comment, as you provided some extremely good help.

Thanks.
