Sync iPhoto library with a NAS drive?

Hi

I've copied my 60GB iPhoto library onto a NAS drive for back up and so I can stream photos to my TV.

However, it makes iPhoto way to slow to work on if the NAS drive version is the default library so I use my local one.

What's the bast way to keep them in sync? The WD backup software wants to create a duplicate rather than just copy across any changed files...

thanks

Use a Back Up app that does incremental back ups. Options include DejaVu, Chronosync but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate

A NAS is not a suitable location for a Library. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.

Thanks Terrance - that's really useful.

I'm not using the NAS based iPhoto library for iPhoto per se - it's too slow. It's for a back up but also so I can stream photos to my TV.

Using it for streaming isn't ideal though as it copies original & modified photos as well as thumbnails etc - but other than manually sort and copy thousands of photos to folders on the NAS I'm not sure how else to do it. And of course, I'd need to do it each time I add photos. At least this way with one sync it's done.

Any thoughts on that one?

I've found a little app called FolderSyncronizer Lite which seems to do the job.

thanks
