New Iphone not playing in car

I got the same problem after upgrading my iphone 3GS to iOS 4 and then iOS 4.2.1 , it is a shame that Apple caused such a major regression ; I can't anymore listen to my iPhone/iPod music in my Renault car.

I have the same problem...never should have updated. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Also, now with the ipod there is no option to repeat one track or an album, only the shuffle option.

I have a Volvo, and I have the same problem! Since the upgrade to 4.2.1, I can't connect my Iphone3G anymore (message: "USB unreadable"). What a shame!
Does someone knows how to do?

I had the same problem with my 2010 Civic. Apple says it's Honda's fault. I think I figured out the fix (for me at least.) I can only play music on my car stereo if a podcast has also been downloaded into my i-phone. When there are no podcasts saved on the phone, music won't play.

Try it. When you start to play music, the podcast will automatically start. You will need to stop the podcast and switch to music.

I've just picked up a new Renault with the carminat usb port and plugged in my iphone4 and 3gs, neither were recognised. had a look online with no success, but i just swapped the current apple usb cable (thiner at phone end) for an older one (thicker at phone end with locking) and both iphones were immediately working.

I wonder if the new design cable is different in some way?
