FCP7 - Magic Bullet Looks (1.3.4) Issues

Since buying MBL's some time ago I have had nothing but issues...

I realize that there are known ATI driver issues but I want it to work alot!

So in an attempt to resolve it I have a question. I upgraded to FCP from FCE a while ago and I noticed today that all my footage is saved as a 'Final Cut Express file/Project File'. It opens in FCP by default with no issues that I can see but could this contribute to my MBL's issues?

The Issues with MBL's are that I load a scene into the timeline and select it and apply a MBL filter and it appears in the filter book but it in the 'Parameters' column here is no black cell with the 'EDIT' option, just a grey empty box.
I can launch MBL's independently but there appears to be on link between the two?
One other thing, after I apply the filter with no luck the render bar on the time line does turn red straight away but I haven't successfully applied any changes?

This could be common to ATI issues with MBL's but can some one please tell me how to stop FCP saving my files with a FCE kind reference? and convert all my existing back to the FCP reference?

Many thanks

Yes Patrick, all these projects were created in FCP not Express. I also did install the MBL after the FCP7 upgrade as I believe the plugin only works with FCP hence my worry about file/project names being shown as FCE as they are not supported.

As for Red Giant CS,

+To make sure that your computer permissions are properly set up, please try the following:+
+1. Be logged-in as Administrator.+
+2. Close all applications.+
+3. Go here: MacHD>Applications>Utilities>+

+Disk Utilities+
+4. Click First Aid tab.+
+5. Be sure that proper hard drive is selected.+
+6. Click Repair Disk Permissions+
+7. Re-install [product].+

But with no improvement.

I have had this problem too. Went through the Magic Bullet re-install, trouble shoot guide, etc., no fix.
The only thing that makes the black edit box appear (for me) is to resize the Viewer window a little with the Filters Tab showing and pop! - the black edit box appears. I guess resizing the window forces a redraw of the contents and places the MBL edit panel in its proper place.

Hope this helps.

Meg,

Very much appreciate your help because in previous months whilst having this issue I did manage to get the 'Edit' button to appear by playing around with the tabs and preview window. However I never exactly knew what I did right when I did it, if you know what I mean? So I was never able do it when I wanted.

What you have described above mimics what I did on the times I think I was successful. albeit accidentally.

Unfortunately, I have tried exactly your process above with no success 😟 something has changed for the worse I fear. OSX, ATI driver, MBL update possibly?

Thank you again.

Hi -
Don't know what to advise at this point.
I just dragged Looks to a clip on the timeline, double clicked on the clip, clicked on the filters tab - no black edit box. As soon as I clicked and moved the window size corner - it popped in.

Running FCP 7.0.3 on OSX 10.6.5.

If you have looked at the MB support site, there is an extended trouble shooting procedure (I think you may have already tried this):

http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/support/faq/product-specific/magic-bullet-looks/ 175/

with what has to be the most complicated permission setting sequence I have ever seen.
