20" iMac (Early 2008) compatibility graphics card.

Hello,
Please, I have a 2400XT 128mb graphics card does not work in full resolution and need to replace it, my question is: The graphics card 661-4673 (early 2008) is compatible replace with 661-4440 (mid 2007)? Thank you for your attention.

You do realize that iMacs' graphic cards are soldered onto the logic board; Apple will not replace just the card, they replace the entire logic board if under warranty. That means that it is probably not possible to replace just the card. But, even if it is, the procedure is very tech knowledge demanding; I had a logic board replaced under warranty and the tech started by removing the screen, then Superdrive, hard drive and a slew of other parts until he reached the logic board. In other words, the computer was pretty much in pieces - there wasn't much left inside the casing.

Unless another user has actually done this and is a tech geek, your best bet to get a definitive answer would be to stop by a local AASP and ask them. It is far more likely that they would have an answer rather than users on these forums.

Hi,

To change this you must completely disassemble the machine work is very technical but you can do. Need full compatibility. For example: iMac mid 2007 and early 2008, both A1224 model, but I'm not sure if these cards 661-4673 and 661-4440 ATI RADEON HD 2400XT are compatible.

Here we are talking about the iMac 20" 1224A and I can confirm that graphic card can be changed in case of failure, for an identical or compatible card. The work is very technical and you have to disassemble the entire machine, who has no experience, best and go from the service assistance. But the question remains open. Can anyone tell me if you can replace a graphic card 20" iMac (mid 2007) on a 20" iMac (early 2008)? Both model iMac 20" Aluminum 1224A. Thanks again.
