Setting up iTunes Library

I've been a PC user for my whole life and just got a Macbook Air. I have about 120GBs of music I want to transfer over from my backup hard drive, but I have a few questions first.

1. What is the easiest way to set up my iTunes library on the new Mac? Should I just copy it all into the iTunes media folder? or "automatically add to iTunes folder?"

2. Is there a way to automatically backup new music you download? So it doesn't get lost in my large library of music.

Thanks

Macbook Air 13 inch (late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.5)

For backup I would use Time Machine to backup to an external hard drive or a network drive like the Time Capsule.

Alternatives to Time Machine are: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751 and and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382

Certainly you can do this. But for a new Mac user Time Machine is very easy way to backup data.
