Mail always sends a copy of emails I send to my inbox

Hi,

I am using gmail. Whenever I send an email from Mail on my Mac it automatically sends a copy of the email to my Mail inbox which shows as coming from me. So if I send an email to Mark with a subject of Test, I will see the email in my sent folder, but I will also get a new email in my inbox which looks like its from me and has the subject Test. It is an exact copy of the email I sent Mark.

I dont see this if I look directly at gmail through browser, only on my Mac. I have looked through all the preferences and can't find anything.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Joe

Joe,

I don't think Gmail expresses any preference, and most people use IMAP if they have smart phones and other computers. (Google prefers you to use web access, so you have to see their side stuff.) I haven't used Gmail as POP lately, but I seem to remember that when you do, that Gmail will send a copy to your Inbox when you send from any email client such as Mail. I will check that as time allows.

Hey Joe,

I recently setup Gmail to work with Apple Mail as well and had the same issue as you. I found the problem was in a default settings of Apple Mail.

"To have Mail store copies of messages you send on your mail server, choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, and select an account. Click Mailbox Behaviors and select "Store sent messages on the server." If this option is not selected, sent messages are stored on your computer and you won't be able to see them if you check your mail from another computer." [http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml35.html]

Basically do the opposite of those instructions and uncheck "Store sent messages on the server." It worked for me so I hope it works for you too!

Let me know if it works,

Jimmy
