AOC 2436Swa display issue

Hi, I'm hoping I've come to the appropriate forum to ask this question - I have a new MacBook Pro which I am trying to connect to an external display via an Apple VGA display port adapter. The display is an AOC 2436Swa LCD monitor capable of 1920x1080@60Hz and has been connected to a laptop running Windows 7 64 bit for the last several months with no issues but when I connect it to the MacBook, I get a signal out of range error and no image.

I've tried the following:
Updated the MacBook software, now running 10.6.5 - *didn't work*.
Checked with AOC for a driver - there is a message +"To use your monitor with Mac, you will need to install the Plug and Play driver that is offered by your Mac operating system. For information on how to install the Plug and Play driver on your Mac operating system, please contact Mac's technical support."+ - *not yet tried*.
Connected an Iiyama Prolite 431S 17" LCD to the MacBook via the display port adapter - *that worked at 1280x1024@75Hz*.
Reconnected the AOC monitor to the Windows 7 laptop - *that worked*.

So the MacBook, display port adapter, VGA cable and monitor work apart from when I connect them together in the combination I require. I've got the trial version of SwitchResX to play with but I'm not sure what to tweak. Apart from that, I have some experience of Linux, Vi and manually working with Xserver configs but if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to start, I'd be grateful!

Does your AOC have DVI or HDMI? If it does, you won't be complicating matters by converting digital to analog. The only reason to connect to VGA as far as I can see is if a monitor only supports VGA. Most monitors supporting 1900 pixel resolutions at least have DVI or HDMI. Displayport to HDMI is the

cable here

And the
cable here handles dual-link DVI,

And the one here handles regular DVI. Check with AOC if you can use any of those cables.

Hi!

Thanks for your reply - I think I've fixed it. On the Windows laptop I used Powerstrip to obtain the timings that the Nvidia card was using to drive the AOC monitor and copied them across to SwitchResX4.

Just in case anyone has this problem, here are the timings:

Generic timing details for 1920x1080:
HFP=88 HSW=44 HBP=148 kHz=68 VFP=4 VSW=5 VBP=36 Hz=60

VESA detailed timing:
PClk=148.50 H.Active=1920 H.Blank=280 H.Offset=72 HSW=44 V.Active=1080 V.Blank=45 V.Offset=4 VSW=5

Now all I need to do is get it running in clamshell mode and I'll be happy!

Thanks again for your suggestions,

Geoff
