Can't setup POP Mail On My Cogeco Account

I just got a new iPad and I'm trying to set up my POP email for it and I'm running into problems and was hoping that someone else that owns an iPad and is on the Cogeco Network In Canada can help me out.

I will list the settings that I'm using but I'm sure they are good as they are the same ones I'm using on my Ipod Touch 1G, and it works fine.

So on my Ipad I go to Settings/Mail contacts Calendars/Add Account/Other/Add Mail Account and start to enter the info

Name : My Name
Address: My Full Email Address
Password: My Password
Description: Cogeco Email.

I then click next and it says looking up account then it goes on to the next screen and it has POP at the top and the following info

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: pop.cogeco.ca
User Name: My Name
Password: My Password

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: smtp.cogeco.ca
User Name: Blank
Password: Blank

I then click on save and this is where it just sits there and says Verifying and after 30 seconds or more, it asks if you want to use SSL or not and using either option just makes it sit there and do nothing other than say verifying and I have to hit the home screen to exit out.

I have been able to setup my GMail account with no problems but the POP account just won't go.

Is there anyone here with an iPad with IOS 4.2 on a Cogeco server that's using there POP email successfully?

Well I finally got my email working.... I ended up hooking up to itunes and then clicking on my iPad and then I went into the info section and down to sync with outlook for email and then when I synced the iPad my POP email accounts were there and working.

I still find it strange that it wouldn't accept the settings manually, but I did here from someone on the Cogeco forums who said they had to wait over 5 minutes after saying no to the SSL before it finally went through. I myself was only waiting around the 1 to 2 minute time frame.

Anyway hopefully this helps someone else out who is having the same sort of problem.

you have it set up on the iphone manually if already add follow this Settings>mail contacts calendars>Cogeco email>

Ensure under Incoming mail server

Host name: pop.cogeco.ca

Username: your_email (only the part before the @ symbol)

Password: your email password

then tap on SMTP under outgoing mail server

under primary server tap

smtp.cogeco.ca

Ensure turn on

Host name : smtp.cogeco.ca

Username: Optional

Password: Optional

(Do not fill in this)

SSL off

Authentication: password

Server port 25

If adding Settings>mail contacts calendars> Add account> Other> Add mail account>

Name: your_name

Address: Full cogeco Email

Password: your password

Description: cogeco

if doesnt work reffer to the above statement once you've added it

This is an old thread but the only one that comes up in Google search. It was time to update the discussion.

As Rogers iPhone 4s user, after many frustrating days of trying to add new email accounts, I clued in. Cogeco has replaced the SMTP setup with the IMAP setup because of the upgrade to the webbased email system - https://www.cogeco.ca/web/on/en/my_cogeco/.

When setting up your iPhone, select OTHER. If you enter the correct email/password combination it will automatically do a setup an imap account. [I had been trying to revert to the smtp setup and kept going Verifying... unsuccessfully]

Incoming

Host: imap.cogeco.ca

User Name: fullemail@cogeco.ca

Password: webbasedemailpassword

Outgoing

Primary: smtp.cogeco.ca (on)

Username: fullemail@cogeco.ca

Password: webbasedemailpassword

Use SSL (ON)

Authentication Password

Server 465

Leave Mail and Notes on.

Hopefully this helps Rogers phone users customers using Cogeco email since there is nothing on Cogego's website that I could find except how to setup the different mail clients.

Cheers

Tim
