Can you try changing the channel of your wireless base station? If it's set to Automatic, use a manual channel selection, and keep changing it until you find a channel that is solid.
I'm having WiFi issues on my iPhone 4 since I updated to 4.2.1 (at least I never noticed it before 4.2.1).
Not quite like what you are seeing, but, I've noticed the following:
- When I unlock the phone, it almost always shows 3G rather than a WiFi connection. It takes a few seconds before it connects to the WiFi. This is pretty standard and makes it annoying when I want to pull out my phone to use the Remote app to control iTunes on my computer since it takes longer to sync up with it.
- I've had to restart the phone twice in the past week because WiFi refused to work. I first noticed it at home. It wouldn't connect to the network. I noticed it again at a coffee shop. My MacBook showed a handful of WiFi networks to choose from, but if I went to the Settings app > Wi-Fi Networks, the Choose a Network list showed nothing. Toggling WiFi on and off didn't help. Toggling Airplane Mode didn't help. Only a reboot fixed the problem.
In both cases, it seems that the WiFi powers down and in some cases refuses to power back up.
WiFi range also seems to have gotten worse, but that could be my imagination or just the fact that WiFi has gotten flaky.
FWIW, I use the AirPlay feature a LOT with my iPhone now that 4.2.1 is installed. I wonder if that has any effect on how WiFi works on the phone.
I'm certainly not pleased. This phone has been trouble free up until now.
Same issue here. First couple of weeks after being upgraded to the iPhone 4 was great. Still is, except for the wifi issue. Full bars and sometimes it tells me I need to be connected to the internet. Other times I have only 2 bars and I'm online with no issues. Or sometimes my network would just disconnect, go straight to 3G. And when I look for my router, it doesn't show up. I have to power cycle my phone or keep turning wifi on and off until my phone sees my router again. Very annoying. I love my Mac, but when it comes to the iPhone (any model), Apple should change it's slogan to "It just works", to "It can be annoying sometimes". lol
