Iphone receives email but laptop doesn't

I have three email accounts: 2 on yahoo and one gmail. I do 90% of my email sending and receiving via entourage on my MBP. Several times per week, I'll find day-old emails on my iphone that somehow never made it to entourage. My hunch is the iphone is grabbing them and taking them off the server, so when I go to check my email in entourage they are no longer there. Is this a reasonble assumption and if so what can I do to correct?

The only settings with the iPhone's Mail app for removing a message from the server when downloaded with a POP account are as follows:

Seven days to have iPhone Mail remove mail from the server a week after it has been downloaded.

When removed from Inbox to make iPhone Mail delete mail from the server only when you delete it from your iPhone Mail inbox.

Which email account is this occurring with - the Yahoo or Gmail account?

Are you accessing your Gmail account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail app and as an IMAP account with Entourage? Creating a Gmail account using the Gmail account preset with the iPhone's Mail app creates the account as an IMAP account on the iPhone.

Did you create your Yahoo accounts using the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone? If so, the accounts were created as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail app. Yahoo does not support accessing a Yahoo account as an IMAP account with an email client on your computer such as with Entourage. If you created the accounts using the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone, accessing an account as an IMAP account with one email client and as a POP account with another email client can lead to some problems.

I have a similar problem. I have recently switched from Entourage on my MacBook to using the Mail program. Using Entourage, my email could be found both on my iPhone Mail program and on Entourage. Now I have been receiving email on the iPhone but it is not going to the Mail program on my MacBook. I'm assuming that when I open it on my iPhone it is deleted from the server. How can I get email both places?

If I am not removing the emails from the server by opening them on the iPhone, why are they not showing up on my laptop Mail program? Again, when using Entourage I received them on both the iPhone and on the Entourage program. I could delete them on the iPhone and they would stay on the Entourage Inbox list. Any suggestions how to get them to the laptop Mail program too?

Not sure but again, this has nothing whatsoever to do with your iPhone or with the iPhone's Mail app.

You are the first person I've seen here reporting that reading an email with their iPhone removes the email from the server. If this is being caused by your iPhone, how come you are the only one?

And you have confirmed after reading a message with your iPhone the message is removed from the server right then - you log in to your MobileMe account via webmail access using a browser on your computer right after reading a message with your iPhone and the message is no longer on the server?

I thought perhaps I had solved the problem when I noticed that Preferences in Mail on my laptop had reverted to Entourage being the default email reader. I changed it again to Mail and just then an email came and I read it on the laptop. I heard the "bing" noise that it had arrived on the iPhone and the iPad. A few seconds later the Entourage checked for mail and all of a sudden the email had disappeared from the Mail programs on both the iPhone and the MacBook, I didn't check the iPad. Strange to have that happen if Mail is the default email reader.

The default email reader setting has nothing to do with this.

Login with your MobileMe account via webmail access using a browser. Are the messages available there?

When you created your .Mac account with the Mail.app on your Mac, how was the account created?

With the Mail.app on your Mac, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts. Select your .Mac account. Under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences, what is shown as the account type - .Mac, IMAP, or POP?

I am having a similar issue, I just got the I-Phone, all is well except when I delete from the phone, it is deleted from my Mac mail on my Mac. It is still on the server on Mobile me, but not in the application on my mac itself. With my other phone I could delete from the phone to free space, but it would still be on my Mac, the little blue ball icon would show that it has been read but still there

I'm a little concerned at the age of this discussion, but hope to find help regardless. I have a new iphone 5, and have set up my imap gmail accounts and others, on it. Emails which are downloaded to the phone do not make it to my Macbook Pro. Some seem to have dissappeared altogether, after having been read! I did try syncing, and a few unread emails found their way to the Macbook, but not others. How can I get the email shared properly between the two - hree in fact, I use an iPad also...

Hi Schnorkel and others,

I had this problem too. I set up my gmail account on my iphone5 and on my Macbook Pro as IMAP but emails didn't consistently show up in my Macbook Pro Apple Mail, though I could see them on my iphone mail.

I read the above and nothing helped.

Here is what I did that solved the problem:

Delete both IMAP accounts on your iphone and on your laptop.

Make sure you also delete any Gmail POP accounts lingering in either place too.

This is okay because all of your emails are still on Gmail's server.

Then starting on your laptop, add a new Gmail IMAP account.

Make sure it works.

Then add a new Gmail IMAP account on your phone.

This totally solved it for me.

I wondered if I set up the iphone gmail first and that may have been somehow pulling messages and not getting them to my laptop. Maybe a random glitch but I think that setting up the account on your laptop first is key. I am not a tech person but this truly solved my problem. Now I am getting messages in both accounts without a problem.

Good luck. Remember to delete ALL Gmail accounts first!
