Trying to place a floating text box

I am trying to create a sizeable floating text box, one that I can position anywhere on the page. When I create a text box, however, it snaps (and locks) to the main text box.

I know there is an easy way to do this, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Hi Paul,

That doesn't match the behaviour I'm getting. In both a Pages word processing document and a Pages page layout document in which I tried this 'floating' was the default setting for text boxes inserted by clicking the button in the toolbar.

Boxes inserted in the WP document caused wrap on all sides of the box, and were about 2.85x2.75 inches in size when inserted.

Boxes inserted in the PL document did not cause wrap, and were the minimum size to show the placeholder text. They expanded to approximately the same size as those inserted in WP documents when I pasted in enough text to overflow that size.

Examples in both types of document were moveable and resizeable (using the mouse).

Two questions:
Which type of document are you using?
What do you mean by the term "the main text box"?

Regards,
Barry
