imac, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
this actually helped me a lot with my ical issue
This helped me...
But I did this
1. Open iCal > "Preferences"
2. Select "Accounts"
3. Verify/update "user name and password" Re-enter your username and password
4. Select "Sever Settings" enter "cal.me.com" @ server address. Done

@deconfrost: I had the same issue and could not eve access pull-down menus...until I diconnected the online connection. It was constantly trying to connect while online. Thanks for helping me fix the problem!
Have you gotten this error message?
Access to “[EVENT]” in “[CALENDAR]” in account “[ACCOUNT]” is not permitted.
The server responded:
“HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.

How could this be? I am doing this from the master account on a family membership. I have been with mobile me since the beginning, but iCal has been horrible. Several times I have been on support with the top experts on the iCal team trying to solve problems to no avail. This is a terrible tool. I keep vowing to switch to Google calendar or Exchange, but I have some faith left that Apple "will just work"
I was also getting a 404 error when trying to sync my calendar with iCal in Lion. What worked for me was going to the Mobileme web site (me.com), logging in, then accessing my calendatr using the cloud icon on the upper left side of the page. It then told me that syncing legacy calendars was not supported and that I needed to upgrade. I clicked the upgrade button and presto, eveything now works in iCal.
Now I have not used my Mobileme calendar for a long, long time, so perhaps this will not be a solution for the rest of you. But it is worth a try.
HI
I managed to fix this based on "deconfrost" deconfrost I am in Lion and was trying to start a new calendar.
So...
All fixed.
Andrew
This was the answer to my version of the problem. Thanks for pointing out this rather frustrating design: MobileMe account/password has to be entered in Systems Preferences AND in iCal's Preferences->Accounts.
i have the same issue..... copied text from the web into reminder and now Ical is unusable... can't add anything to Ical and have to force quit.
I run OSX Lion on MacAir...
I had the same problem and resolved it this way:
1. Open iCal Preferences and select Accounts.
2. Delete any MobileMe accounts.
3. Create a new account, select MobileMe, and enter your username and password.
Voila!
By golly I have totally forgotten about the upgrading of mobile me calendar. I just didn't put the 2 together thinking this would interfere with the syncing....but it worked. I went to me dot com and went to calendar, it said legacy calendar not support ..want to upgrade?...
done. syncing now.. THANKS!1
by the way..i was getting the 404 permission denied error msg.
Before doing anything radical to iCal account settings, logon to MobileMe and check System Status. Recently, the follow message has been posted there:
System Status
The problem may not be with local settings but with the server.
Thank you for your simple diagnosis of this 'server responded with an error' situation, which I got on trying to sync my MobileMe data to iCal on my new iMac today. Adding the password in preferences, going off and then back online did the trick. The MM calendars immediately appeared as well as the On My Mac ones that I could then delete. Hopefully no more error windows...
Here's what fixed it for me:
1. Open iCal > "Preferences"
2. Select "Accounts"
3. Re-enter your username and password.
4. Exit iCal and start it again.
5. Done!
No more eror message.
