Maybe starting your own thread would be better, since this one is more about what is or is not restored, not general assistance with making or restoring backups.

Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
My itunes is all apple lossless. Mostly ripped straight from CD. I want my itunes import CD encoder settings to reflect this and continue to rip audio in lossless format.
My 64gb iphone 5s requires my itunes music collection be transcoded into a lossy format to fit on the iphone. But I currently have to set my import CD encoder settings off of apple lossless and onto AAC 96kbps VBR to get my collection to fit on the iphone. I then separately must check the box in itunes telling it to "convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps". This location in itunes to determine what to convert my music files to, should allow me to set encoder settings to AAC 96kbps VBR for this function. It does not allow 96kbps, only 128kbps. If I set my import CD encoder settings to AAC from lossless, then tick this convert box in itunes and select 128 from the drop down menu, then I can succeed in getting my music converted small enough to fit on my iphone. But then I must also remember to go back to turn my import CD econder back to lossless once I've finished synchronizing my iphone.
The import CD encoder settings should be able to be left at ALAC (lossless) as that is a unique process seperate from putting music on my iphone. I should not have to continually change my CD import encoder settings when all I want to do is sync my iphone to itunes.
I should also be able to have a more robust transcoder on itunes to sync my iphone. Giving me the opportunity to set my transcoder output to AAC (lossy) 96kbps VBR.
Anyone have any advice here?

Start your own thread instead of attempting to hijack one that has absolutely nothing to do with your question.

Feb 6, 2015 6:52 PM in response to thespaciousmindby rajza00,I'm having the same problem! I'm stuck using my 4S and constantly have had to backup and restore as my backup in iTunes. None of my apps load and iTunes keeps prompting me to set up my new phone. ????

Feb 24, 2015 9:40 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby fightswithappledevices,Disclaimer: For time reasons, I did not read all 15 pages of this thread. I only scanned a few pages back.
I'm having a problem with the restore from backup. I have a replacement iPhone that I have wiped 3 times and restored from backup 3 times. It will not copy my apps and furthermore, once the restore is finished, the phone returns to the "Hello" screen that one sees when a phone has been erased and reset. Once again, after the restore has finished through itunes, the phone returns to the "Hello" screen which I already went through. I tried 2 backup restores via iTunes, and also a restore initiated through the phone. A full backup was was saved, apps transfered, etc, less than two weeks ago.
A step further, if I go through the hello screen and "set up as a new phone" now that the restore has completed, my contacts and texts are in the phone, but none of my apps. I also tried syncing, after restore from backup, and nothing happened. After a restore is completed, I shouldn't be seeing the "Hello" screen. I also can't see why it should matter whether the restore was initiated via iTunes or the phone.
Can anyone explain why this "too simple to fail" process is failing and how to resolve it?
(Unsolicited opinion: I really resent the new version of iTunes and iOS, tributes to bad computer fashion.)

Start a new thread with some more detail on how the backup was taken (iCloud or iTunes), what model iPhone and iOS levels you are talking about (old phone and replacement) and exactly what is happening, any errors, etc.

Mac OS XAre the apps present in the iTunes library on the computer you're restoring from? If not, then that's your problem. Apps are not part of the backup. It would be redundant as they should be in the iTunes library and there is no need to keep another copy of them. Music and other media also are not part of the backup for the same reason.
If you were restoring from an iCloud backup, your apps will re-instal as part of the restore process. If you didn't have them in your iTunes library and you're restoring from iTunes on a computer, you can re-download apps at no charge using the same ID used to purchase them originally.

Oct 9, 2015 2:15 PM in response to thespaciousmindby TomTA,Again like many others I have 'Stumbled' across this discussion whilst having issues restoring my iPad after the various v9 updates. Actually substitute updates with the word debacle.
Maybe I just got unlucky with the choice of words I entered into the Google search to end up here. ;-)
No.. I haven't read all the posts but [rspaceball Oct 23, 2013 9:16 PM ] hit the road running.
It is really simple.
Apple announce an update.
We take steps to ensure we run a full backup before running the update.
We click the button for the FU (I hope you don't try and work out this acronym by yourselves. I of course mean 'Feature Update')
We then try to recover after the FU using the backup and get 20 apps back from 200. No data included apart from a few exceptions.
Nice.
A suggestion.
Could you add a feature where we can mark posts with a minus. I have a few lined up. I have even more lined up for pluses.

Jan 16, 2016 11:24 AM in response to thespaciousmindby cowanl,I backuped up my iPhone using iTunes. Items include notes, contacts, calendars. These items have been updated since the backup. Can i restores only selected items or do I get the whole package replaced?

Jan 16, 2016 11:32 AM in response to cowanlby KiltedTim,No. You can't do a selective restore. It's all or nothing.
