No longer can publish iCal calendar as a viewable webpage?

Hmmm. Wish I'd read this before spending hours updating software and looking for answers in my system. I also use this as business tool for client projects and am disappointed it's not working. Does anyone know if this is temporary or if the feature has been disabled permanently? I get the same message that the other post notes.

That is really an insolence of Apple; this service was tacitly quitted without replacement.

I love apple products, but the failure of iCal to publish to websites seems like a cynical attempt to push people to purchase mobile me accounts. That may work for calendar sharing but not for small business, or in my case a church website update. I am really annoyed at that our Christmas events are not being published automatically!!!

I'm having a similar issue. I used "private sharing" to share my work calendar with my wife. Every time we try to view the "privately shared" calendar, the page just times out. What gives Apple?

My wife and I are both very busy and this would be a great way to keep our calendars in sync, if it worked 😟

I could also recommend Zoho Calendar. I can't imagine why Apple would be so petty as to remove this capability from iCal...it's not as is they are even going to make much money from it; just another way of telling loyal customers that we get what they choose to give us, I guess...

I used to think that Apple cared - now we know the truth. Please Apple, prove us wrong - this is just a glitch, is it not? Surely you wouldn't deliberately upset your loyal users, who have made you who you are?

The problem with Google Calendars is that you can't embed them inside your own web page like you can with iCal, unless someone knows something about Google calendars that I don't.

I've tried other calendar solutions, but most require more effort than iCal.

These recent problems may be temporary. Something far bigger has gone wrong with iCal... people are losing everything that they have put into iCal. Check some of the other threads. If desktop iCal app looks OK, backup NOW with FILE>EXPORT>iCal Archive. The problems started with the latest update. (You might want to avoid it for now, unless it's too late.)

I've been happy with web calendar publishing with iCal so far, but still look for other alternatives from time to time.

Sometimes loading is slow, and some of my site visitors claim it doesn't load at all, but I don't know what can be done about that.

You also have to keep in mind that Apple doesn't contribute to Apple Discussions (ever!), and who knows whether they read any of this. It's just you and I helping each other. Not ideal, but I've received some great advice this way.

Anyway, beware of the bigger problem of total loss of your iCal events!

Thanks to Apple for fixing the problem - after all they did say it was a "temporary fault".

OK. - The following is my temporary, somewhat crude 'work-around' to publish my iCal calendars for now.

Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
From the Go menu, choose iDisk. Your iDisk appears in the Finder.
From the Go menu, choose Go to Folder.
Type: /Volumes/membername/Sites/.calendars/ (where "membername" is your MobileMe account- i.e. 'bsmith' as in bsmith@me.com)
In the window that appears, drag the calendar you no longer want published (or want to replace with an updated one) to the Trash (it should be an 'ics' file type).
Leave the Finder window open for now.
Go to iCal and select the calendar you want to publish. Then, select 'File' and 'Export'.
Take the exported 'ics' file you just created and drag to the open Finder window.
Make sure the ics file name is the same as the one you previously published for others to view online.
If it's a new calendar, just change the name and send/embed this link: http://ical.me.com/username/calendarname

Hopefully Apple will fix this mess soon!!!

I was surprised that it was not possible to publish calendars anymore. After playing a bit around i found ot what has happend:
Since the last mobileme-update (the new calendar stuff) all my calendars appear in ical as a group "xxxx@me.com". All those calndars can only be shared. The context-menu "publish" is missing.
While creating a new local calendar i found that on calendars that are local (not synced with MobileMe) can be published as usual.
For some reason it seems not t be possible to share and publish a calendar.
I hope this brings in a bit light.

Actually, I just discovered another sequence that seems to work: Select one of the calendars under the group "xxxx@me.com" then select 'Calendar' and 'Change Location' on the menu bar. Leave the the publishing server as mobileme and check the box 'Publish Changes Automatically' then click 'Publish'.
The progress bar froze at the end and I had to do a 'force quit' but changes to the calendar are publishing automatically as before the 4.0 update.

Let's see if it keeps working.
