Couple of Problems

I'd like to ask a couple of questions here:

1. My iPhone 3G keeps randomly switching to 'headphones' mode. Now this is slightly irritating and I've tried cleaning the jack out. Wondered if anyone had any tips to rectify this. As far as I can tell it's completely random as to when it chooses to switch to headphones mode.

2. My iPhone keeps randomly turning on the backlight every 30 secs or so. This is also quite annoying as it drains the battery so quickly. I wonder if maybe the two problems are related?

Basically, I have done a restore, a reset, AND taken it to the Genius Bar. They suggested a repair for £149, but I don't think they fully understood the problem which I was having. Any help would be so much appreciated! 🙂

If the headphone jack has been cleaned out and you use headphones often, it sounds like the mechanism that switches the iPhone from headphone mode to normal mode when removing the earbuds has a hardware problem - especially if completely random.

If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has some hardware problems.
