Export to iTunes as large file doesn't play on 1st gen AppleTV

I have a movie created in iMovie 09 that I exported to iTunes. In iTunes, the file type is .m4v and the file plays appropriately.

I synced the file directly to my AppleTV, but when I tried to play it, got error message that the file type wasn't supported.

Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.5.7)
