iMovie displaying wrong clips from project

i have a small project less than 3 minutes long consisting entirely of pictures and transitions and music track (no video clips). everything was working fine till this morning. now anytime i add pictures to the project, their thumbnails appear correctly in project view but the wrong image is displayed in the movie itself. (the picture imovie displays is from a picture somewhere else already in the project. this happens no matter which pictures i add and no matter where i add them. tried restarting the mac, duplicating the project and editing the duplicate, all same result. when i create a completely new project, the images display fine. but adding to this specific project, none of the added images display their own image (except in project view), they are always displaying another picture's image (where that other picture was already in the project).

i imagine something is corrupt but i don't know what. if the project is corrupt, are there any steps to go about "uncorrupting" it? i really don't want to have to recreate the project all over again.

thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

I doubt many people are still using this version of iMovie, but I am and I thought I'd share what happened in my case.

In my case, this doesn't have anything to do with iPhoto, because I'm not using iPhoto on this project.

It also doesn't have anything to do with duplicate file names, because I'm quite sure that I had never named any files "pasta with pesto sauce" or "Parmesan on plate with shredder" before, whether inside iMovie or not. 🙂

However, it did work to erase the offending pictures, rename them in the Finder, and re-import them. My guess is that whatever problem had been created in iMovie to create this issue, iMovie has it associated with that particular name. No matter what I did to the picture (moving it, deleting and re-importing, and so forth), the issue remained. But once it's renamed, everything is fine.

Thanks to Bennynormal for the help!

one other point:

when i add a video clip to the project, the video clip displays appropriately. only the pictures imported from iphoto are not displaying correctly. i also tried exporting to see if the rendered movie displayed the photos correctly but they don't. in fact they render a different wrong image than the wrong image displayed in imovie.

Same here for me. I think it might have happened when I copied some clips from another project and pasted them in the new one.

I've spent over 8 hours on this movie so it kinda *****!! 😟

I use Aperture.

When I option-click and choose the view the file in finder it locates the right file...

I am having the exact same problem. I can't seem to find a workaround, even duplicating the project file gave me the same issue. My best solution is you can make a separate project, drag the photos you want to show into there (with any transitions or effects you want) and then export that project as a separate QuickTime file. Then reimport that newly created movie and it will work because iMovie is reading your "photos" as a movie file now. I did this and it worked for me, even though I admit it's a pain. But at least I didn't have to start my project all over again. Good luck!

Im having the same problem too...and its annoying. i realized that this only happens when u switch between projects. As in when u open up another project and come back to the current one your working on, it all freezes up.

For some reason the pics remain the same as the one before. so my only suggestion from now till this bug gets a fix is to stay on the same project till ure totally done.
