Q: XSAN 2.2 Permissions problem

Hi,

We're running XSAN 2.2 on an XServe metadata controller 10.6, using another identical XServe as file server. At this level, all is well.

We have three Volumes, which have all had problems correctly employing Access Control Lists. So, we've now decided to forego the ACL and just use POSIX permissions (since we are using Active Directory and this isn't really a problem).

On all three Volumes, however, when I set permissions using Server Admin (10.6.3 328.3.3) for a folder at a particular point in the tree, it automatically makes changes to the permissions of all the other folders in the same level (but only those which have been amended) to the same permissions as the most recent change.

For example, if I set the owner of folder A to be user: ME, the owner of folders B, C and D in the same folder all become owned by ME. Folders E, F and G, which have been untouched since I propagated permissions from the folder above remain owned by the owner from the propagated permissions.

This is causing a massive problem as we have our user folders all on one level, which obviously need to have specific users as owners and an AD group of techies with group access (and no access to everyone else). With the current problem, each folder is owned by the single individual whose folder been most recently updated. Useless!

Everything is otherwise prefectly functional..

I've tried a number of different configurations and have even recreated one of the Volumes, but all to no avail.

Any advice would be given a hero's welcome..

Many thanks!
