Subscribing to an .ics file through your Safari browser.*Revised

Hi all, does anyone know why in previous versions of iOS on the iPad(Pre iOS4.2) you were allowed to click thru a link in Safari which was connected to an .ics calendar file then be prompted by the OS to either accept or decline subscription in iCal but now with the new iOS4.2.1 update you're unable to subscribe to .ics files thru Safari? I really need to have this work for work purposes. Please to help me with this frustratiion. Why Apple? Why?

Yes I know this but it's a complete hassle. If I'm in Safari and there's a link for some event I'd like to be reminded of in my iCal, its so much more user friendly to be able to have a prompt right in the browser that subscribes you to the event without adding the hassle of emailing or manually having to add this. This is almost like a step backwards to have to do so no? Is there any possibility that this is just a bug that needs to be ironed out to bring it back?

i thought that i may have been imagining this exact regression.

happened to have a new ios4 while working on a calendaring app, and was able to subscribe to a Google Calendar feed via a link to an .ics, but now can't..."Safari cannot download this file".

one more thing to note: just used Opera on the iphone, which correctly asked me to subscribe to the calendar, and then added it to iCal.

i should have included an example url:

http://foam.lib.muohio.edu/~rob/ics.html

Safari just gives "Safari cannot download this file", while Opera downloads, then asks to "Subscribe" or "Cancel". after subscribing, prompted to "View Events" or "Done"

seems like a strange thing to remove, especially as a secondary browser is still hooked up to some sort of mime-type delegation.
