Wireless keyboard not supported by Ipad

I have an iMac G5 which came with a white wireless keyboard. I have been trying to use it with my new iPad to no avail. I disconnected it from the iMac and shut it off, then opened the preferences in the iPad, turned on Bluetooth, turned on the keyboard, and it searched and discovered the keyboard but but it says it is not not supported. A couple of times a window popped up giving instructions on how to set it up including typing the password of the keyboard.

Nothing. So I turned off the Bluetooth in the iPad and re-connected the keyboard to my iMac.

What can be done when the iPad says a keyboard is not supported -- an Apple keyboard, mind you.

Thanks
Roxy
