Updating firmware for ATI Radeon X1900 Graphics Card

I haven't upgraded the firmware of the ATI Radeon X1900 graphics card since I got the computer. I downloaded what is supposedly a utility app. that does this upgrade. I'm just not sure if this is the right utility, right upgrade, or if I'm taking some kind of weird risk.

Any suggestions or warnings would be most appreciated.

Thank you, Ben

Thank you 'the Hatter'

And just yesterday I noticed how much the processor was pumping. The card has been working fine for years now, since 2007 at least. I wonder if there is any way to clean the collected dust out of it ... can one just use one of those computer aerosol like cans to blow air at it, into it? Or would the dust have collected INSIDE and there is nothing I can do without a techie with tools?

You have to take the card out, once you do you will see what has happened to it. Compressed air, even opening the inside as well, especially given it has been so long without due attention.

If you can gift yourself, the 5770 is a nice upgrade. And check into what serial numbers were in the batch being replaced. Not sure of Apple Tech note but read as often on Accelerateyourmac.com months ago.

Hi justmetoo1,

I can't get the firmware to update. I'm getting pop-up boxes telling me that 'necessary resources are missing, corrupt, or do not have the correct permissions ... etc. etc. I've fixed permissions, re-downloaded the app, re-installed it twice. Still get the same pop-up boxes. It looks like an old firmware update. I'm wondering if it just doesn't like Snow Leopard?

I will check out your suggestion ... a 'free' upgrade to a new card? This has got me very curious...
