Mobile Device Management Server

Hi
I want to deploy iPads in my work , but I read in the Deployment Scenarios for iPad in Business that you need to have a Mobile Device Management Server. what is this server and from where I can get it?
what I will lose if I didn't deploy this server?

iPad wifi+3G, iOS 4

Check out www.air-watch.com. This is the solution my employeer is currently investigating to manage our iOS devices.

From the apple site:

Management of iPad takes place via a connection to a Mobile Device Management server. As noted, this server can be purchased from a third-party solution provider.
