Panasonic PV-GS29 DV Won't Be Recognized

Hi Gang

I picked up a Panasonic PV-GS29 - like new condition - was going to use it as a playback deck. It works well, but can't be recognized thru FC6 - tried 2 different DV cables - 2 different FW400 ports - tried all combinations of 'Easy Set Up'.

No Go

Maybe the PV-GS29 is just too basic, not enough settings to be configured properly?

Any ideas?
Thanx
Mike

Hello Ian

Good to see you again.

Thanks for providing all your data. I think the fact of the matter is, the camera is just not communicating via DV/Fire Wire 400 with a computer.

I've tried everything; changing DV cables, changing FireWire Ports, adjusting the time and camera settings properly, even trying two different computers, and two different programs; iMovie and FC.

All the other features seem to be working fine. It would have been a nice little playback deck as it played 2-3 different types of tape back just fine.

I'm pretty sure the seller will take it back.

Thank you again Ian!
Happy Holidays to you!
Always good to see you

Hi Ian

Yes understood - I like the mechanics - I noticed the toggle wheel is firm and the mechanics are sound. It's a shame because this would have taken some wear and tear off my DVX100B's.

Unless I've missed something here; the cables I've been trying are standard IEEE 1394. Unless Panasonic has a special FW cable? Unfortunately, it looks like a bad FW port 😟

Ian when you have a few moments for a download, look on page 55-66; http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/PVGS29.PDF

Thank you Ian
Mike
