Magic Mouse Scrolls By Itself!
I have had this problem for almost a year, and since I just got another Mac, and it does it on that machine too (to a lesser degree), I know it has to be software related.
I LOVE the Magic Mouse. It also drives me up a wall. The thing scrolls by itself. For example, as I'm sitting here typing this post, there is enough text to scroll vertically. If I were to touch the mouse and move it, there's a 50% chance that simply moving the mouse down would cause the text area to scroll down. Likewise if I was on a regular web page that could scroll in any direction, moving the mouse might make the page scroll. It tends to happen more often after I've clicked the mouse button, but it can happen even if I haven't.
The same thing happens in any app with scrolling, in any direction. At least half the time, there is some amount of unintended scrolling when I move the mouse. It makes using Google Maps almost impossible, because it is constantly zooming in and out.
On my MBP17, the scrolling goes from minor to very pronounced. Just last night I was writing some code in Eclipse, and then moved the mouse to click on an item in the menu, and the document I was working on scrolled upward with great intensity at least fifty lines.
On my new 11" MacBook Air that I got just a few days ago, it does the same thing, but not nearly as often or as severely (yet). The problem on my MBP has gotten worse over time, so I expect the same thing will happen on the MBA.
This is not my first Magic Mouse to do this. My original one that I bought when I got my MBP died a terrible death one day last March when I was in a really bad mood and had had enough of the insane scrolling. So I bought another one, and sure enough, it does it too.
I have seen posts similar to mine on other sites on the net, but nobody has an answer. I figured it was time to post here in the hopes that something can be done.
Here's what I have installed that is common to both machines, roughly:
10.6.5
XCode
MacPorts
Fink
CS4 or CS5 (the MBP has CS4)
Forklift 2
Skype
MS RDP Client
Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari
Filezilla
Aperture
MagicPrefs (it still does it even if I disable MagicPrefs)
VirtualBox
Eclipse
ColdFusion 9
I think that's about it.
