Ringing from my edirol audio interface

I have the edirol ua25 audio interface. When I select audio input 1 I get a high pitch ringing even when nothing is pluged into it, but when I select input 2 the soud is not there. Does anyone know if there is anything I am doing to cause this? Better yet... Does any one know how to solve this?

Thanks,
Ajr.

Hi Armstrong Junior

Just joined this group and noticed your post from December. I hope you are still out there.

I have an Edirol UA25 and get the same problem. I get the ringing as soon as the unit is attached to the usb socket on my Powerbook and my desktop. After being left on for a couple of hours the whine goes away. It is very frustrating as nothing I do seems to make any difference. It is almost as if the unit needs a couple of hours to warm up.

I took the unit to Digital Village where I bought it and they couldn't replicate the problem on their PC system. I plugged it into my Powerbook in the shop and again it was silent, typical. The UA25 had been on all day so I wasn't surprised. Got it home, plgged it in again (about 45 mins later) and there was the whine again. I can't get in to Digital Village again on the same day as the technician but will try again if I get the oportunity.

I downloaded the drivers for my PC laptop at work and the whine was there on the pc. I wasn't able to leave it long enough to see if it went away but that suggests it isn't just an Apple thing.

Have you managed to have any luck?

Regards

Andy

I also have experienced this ringing, although I would call it a whine as in a high pitched whine.
For me, I have found a way to reproduce the sound even without any audio interface attached, Just so we are talking about the same sound, try this...

Find any .aif or .sd2 or mp3 files on your powerbook, click to select it's icon and press command i, (command plus the letter i key) to do a "Get info" on the file. In the info inspector that opens up at the "Preview" area turn the turn-down triangle so it shows the scrubber play bar. Just doing that, showing the preview of an audio file will start the high pitch processor whine.
Check your powerbook and see if it does the whine.
This is so we talking about the same sound.

Yes!I believe. It is caused by Low bus power It can be solved by obtaining a usb cable with an RF filter on it (looks like a cylinder on one end of the cable) The ringing is only present when the input mix knob is set to monitor the inputs for me. If it is really bad it is covered under warranty as a defect but only is it is unuseably loud if you barely hear it probably not.You can also try using a powered hub.

Hi Guys

I am still here and still have the problem. I took my powerbook in to the shop and we were able to recreate the noise. They are getting another shipment of UA25s in at the end of the week so we are going to see if they exhibit the same whine.

I did try using it with a powered USB hub however the unit didn't like it at all and refused to work. I will give it another go but this time I will make sure there is nothing else plugged into the hub.

I'll let you know how I get on.

(firewire audio interface noise, CHUD)

My documentation of this problem is online here...
http://www.screenlands.com/logic/firewireaudiointerface

there is a recording of the noise, a photo of how it was recorded
and links to more info and a fix !

The fix seems to be to download and install "CHUD".
that's included in my documentation stuff.

Or search the Apple Developer area of the Apple website.
http://developer.apple.com/tools/download

Or search for "CHUD" in these Logic Pro forums.

Hope this helps.

I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION, NOT A FIX BUT I DECIDED TO GET THE FIREWIRE SOLO, I USE THE MULTI MIX (YOUR SITUATION EDIROL)AS A MIXER AND USE THE SOLO AS FIREWIRE INTERFACE, WORKS GREAT AND IS 24 BIT, I KNOW IT MEANS MORE MONEY, NOT THE COST EFFICIENT SOLUTION BUT MUCH BETTER QUALITY. BEST THING I COULD FIND, LOST PATIENCE WITH USB SITUATION.
