Power Book G3 + DVD Drive Not Working

Pismo 500 G3+DVD Drive not working

Hello All,
I'm trying to breath some life back into a old 500 G3 Power Book, i wont to reinstall OS 9 back onto to it, but every time i load a Disc in the drive and reboot, the machine spits out the disc, - id say that the DVD drive has had it, if so, whats my best option, is it possible to boot and install via Target mode from another Mac via FireWire ?
