Flash player 10.1.102 on OS 10.6.5 / Safari 5.0.3

My apologies for posting if this question has been asked and answered previously--but I don't think it has. On YouTube, NY Times, etc I get a message that says I need to upgrade my version of flash player in the box where video should be. I have gone to the Adobe website and uninstalled/reinstalled several times but I get the same result, and have tried to access the Adobe Settings Manager by control-clicking and I do not get the proper menu (instead I get the "open link in new window" menu).

All very strange as this version of Flash Player works with same system on my iMac at work. Thoughts?
