Audio preview not working on our landing page

I am producing a weekly podcast called "Mousetalgia - An Unofficial Disneyland Podcast" which is hosted by libsyn and has been doing well on iTunes. Recently, the previews on our landing page in the iTunes store have stopped working. The little arrow to the left of the episode title will appear, but it will not function. The episode title will appear in the LCD display at the top of the page, but nothing will play. I have verified with libsyn that the problem exists, but our feed and encoding are correct (this is a recent problem, though we haven't had anything like this happen with over 100 episodes.) Libsyn suggests that it is an error with the iTunes Store. Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your files are quite large. I checked episode 111, and it's a 50MB file. The Store preview page has to download the entire file before starting to play it, and this takes quite some time. Even on a good connection this is going to take around a minute. I did get this to play. This seems to work OK on other episodes: click play and you can see it downloading if you have an indicator for this on your Mac, but unfortunately the page itself gives no indication that anything is happening for quite a long time.

However when I tried in the iTunes Store in iTunes, my first attempt did get a file to play, but after that it behaved as you describe, showing the file but not proceeding. Subscribing to the podcast seemed to work fine: I tried several episodes and they all started downloading OK.

I can't say for sure what is going on. I've seen the delay in the web page before, with large files; and subscribing works fine (as does playing the files from the feed in a browser). The problem lies with the Store page in iTunes (which at one point asked me to verify my credit card - no idea what it thinks it's doing). It's behaving as if the server is not responding to requests from the Store, but whose fault this in I couldn't say.

You could try iTunes Support, but I'm afraid you are unlikely to find them at all helpful: you could try asking for it to be escalated. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.

Thanks for the suggestions, Roger.

I figured about 1MB per minute of MP3 was about normal for a podcast - am I mistaken? At any rate, I don't think the iTunes store downloads the whole podcast before previewing shows - when I just choose a random podcast on another show's landing page, and click the arrow to preview, it starts playing almost immediately. Besides that, not too long ago our podcasts used to preview properly, and I haven't changed anything about the way I encode the files or the way I set up the feed through libsyn. The preview seems to have just suddenly stopped functioning.

Anyone else have any ideas what might be happening, or similar experiences? I've submitted requests for support twice now - the first time, the tech just said that it must be "frustrating," and she said they may have had similar problems with other shows, without offering any solution. The second time, I just received a form letter with a link to the feed troubleshooting page. Sigh.

FYI - After writing 4 times to Apple support and getting 4 different suggestions (basically asking me to check the feed and directing me to information about feeds), one of my co-hosts that works with a fairly high-profile Silicon Valley company also contacted Apple, and voila, the previews just started working out of the blue. Not sure if it was my co-host's email, or my 4th support request, or just the magic of the podcast gods, but the preview is working again with no changes made on our part. So, I'll mark this question answered, even though Apple never told us what had happened.
